Thanapol Eawsakul, editor-in-chief of the political academic publisher Same Sky Books, was arrested on Wednesday evening (29 June) on charges of procuring and sharing national secrets and violation of the Computer Crimes Act.

Thanapol Eawsakul, a co-founder of Same Sky, a book publisher well known for producing titles about Thai political history and the monarchy has been sued by Gulf Energy Development Public Company Limited (GULF) over a Facebook post shared from an MP who has also been sued by the company.

Military officers have visited the editor of the Same Sky Journal, asking whether the journal is involved in the distribution of Pheu Thai Party New Year calendar images of Yingluck and Thaksin. According to Thanapol Eawsakul, the editor of Same Sky Journal, an anti-establishment socio-political journal (Fah Diew Kan in Thai), four military officers came to his office at 12 noon on Wednesday, 13 January 2016, and held a brief discussion with him.

Military personnel visited the office f an anti-establishment social-political journal, asking the editor his opinions towards the Thai junta.   Five officers from the 5th Anti-aircraft Infantry at 1:45 pm on Tuesday, 25 August 2015, came to the office of Same Sky Journal (Fah Diew Kan in Thai). The officers said that they came to introduce themselves to people working at the publication because they have taken over the responsibility to do so in place of those who used to be in charge of the same task.

  The military has again attempted to censor the anti-establishment Same Sky (Fah Deaw Kan in Thai) publishing house by banning its t-shirts, one of which has the image of a dinosaur, with possible charges of lèse majesté.

Thanapol Eawsakul, editor in chief magazine Fah Diew Gan (Same Sky), a political magazine, was arrested after posting a message on Facebook that displeased the ruling junta. Eawsakul was released on 9 July after four days in jail. The arrest took place after Eawsakul responded to an invitation to meet military officers at a cafe.

Thanapol Eawsakul, editor of the Same Sky academic journal, was released from detention at around 3.50 pm on Wednesday after he was arrested and detained -- for the second time --- on Saturday evening.    He was forced to sign, again, an agreement stating that he will stop all political activities and stop expressing opinions on politics.

  The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) is gravely concernedto have learned that Thanapol Eawsakul, writer, human rights defender, and editor of Fa Diew Kan (Same Sky) journal and publishing house, has been re-arrested and is being held by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). The conditions of his re-arrest and detention are arbitrary and a clear derogation of the Government of Thailand's obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
