High ranking military officer followed and “requested” to see a female member of Khon Kaen student activist group and continue to monitor the activities and whereabouts of the group members closely after the arrest of the five student activists flashing three-fingered in mid november.
The student activist told Prachatai that the continuous intimidation from the authority stir up fear and greatly affected their studies during examination period.
A member of Dao Din Group, a student activist group based at Khon Kaen University of Thailand northeastern Khon Kaen Province who asked not to be named due to security concerns, revealed that at around 8:30am on Tuesday police officers in plain clothes came to the group’s facility and told her that the vice director of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) of Khon Kaen wanted to talk to the group.
She, however, refused and said that she was not interested to talk and will leave the province and go back hole after the examination week and that Dao Din has not engaged in any activity and she could not contact other members of the group. Nonetheless, the police called the vice director of ISOC who requested to see her individually.
Later, she told the officer to contact the faculty dean of Khon Kaen University instead. Later the police called the dean and let her speak to the dean who advised her to see the military officer and that he would come to see the officers with her at 9:30am on Tuesday.
However, after consulting with others members of the group, she decided not to see the military officers because of fear for her safety and stated that the military would still prohibit the group to continue their activities as expected. Therefore, it was pointless to go to such meeting, she told Prachatai.
According to Dao Din Facebook page, the authority has been monitoring the group’s activities and individual members of the group closely after the release of five members of the group who were arrested on 19 November for flashing three-fingered salute and wearing t-shirts with the message reads ‘No Coup’ during Prayuth Chan-ocha’s, the head of the junta, speech in Khon Kaen.
