Thai police arrested a man accused of defaming the monarchy on Facebook more than a year after the complaint was filed.
According to Bangkokbiznews, the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) police arrested Piya J., in eastern Bangkok. Piya was accused of violating the lèse majesté law or Article 112 of the Criminal Code and Article 14 of the 2007 Computer Crime Act for publishing illegal content on the Internet.
According to TCSD Deputy Director Pol Col Yothin Tosanga, a group of royalists filed a complaint against the suspect in mid-2013 over a Facebook profile under the name ‘Pongsathorn B.’ defaming the King.
TCSD police later discovered that the current identity of Pongsathorn B. is Piya J. and requested the court to issue an arrest warrant against the suspect in late June.
During his interrogation, Piya admitted that he posted the allegedly lèse majesté content.
The police added that Piya has changed his registered name six times since 2001 and that he illegally used his old national identification cards.
