French state officials for human rights wrote messages to support the 14 embattled anti-junta activists after anti-coup Thai students in Europe issued a statement calling for their immediate release.

On Monday, 6 July 2015, a group of anti-coup Thai students in France met Patrizianna Saparacino, the French Ambassador at Large for Human Rights, and submitted a statement entitled ‘For Our Friends’ to urge the immediate release of the 14 anti-junta activists as their custody period will expire on Tuesday.

The statement was signed by 84 Thai students who are currently studying in 15 countries in Europe.

According a representative of the group, Thai students in Europe are concerned that the Thai military court might continue to detain the 14 activists after the expiration of the first custody period issued on the 26 June 2015.

The group also mentioned that they are especially concerned about the health conditions of Chonticha Jang-rew, the only female student activist in custody, and the increasingly repressive environment under the Thai junta’s regime.

The French Ambassador at Large for Human Rights told the group that she is also concerned about the reports of human rights violations in Thailand and the condition of the detained female activist.

She added that she will consider what she could do to improve the situation and aid the detained activists.

Later, French state officials at the human rights office wrote messages on post-it notes to support the 14 embattled anti-junta activists.
