Not even a week after news of a mug-throwing teacher caused public outrage, a school director in Isaan has reportedly hit an 11-year-old to the point that the student became deaf. The director attacked after the student was not willing to stand for the national anthem

On 15 September 2016, representatives from the Sri Muang Mai District Police Station in Ubon Ratchathani sent a case-file containing accusations against Winai Wongsasuk, director of Nong Hang School, to a public prosecutor, Matichon Online reported.

The school director stands accused by the family of the student, referred to anonymously as ‘A’, of physically assaulting A in June.

According to A’s family, Winai violently slapped A across the face and ears many times and elbowed the sixth grade student in the head during a morning school assembly in front of other students at the school. A suffered from a severe headache and nosebleed after the assault.

Papphavadee Thitisan, A’s grandmother, filed a complaint against Winai on 8 June.

She said that after three months of medical treatment, A’s hearing remains lost and he cannot see clearly.

“I feel very sad and feel pity for my grandchild as he is a ‘special child’ because his mental development is slower than others,” said Papphavadee.

A’s grandmother added that the school director admitted that he assaulted A and offered her 2,000 baht compensation, but she refused to accept the money.

A’s classmates said that Winai hit A because he did not want to stand for the national anthem as he was feeling tired.

Papphavadee told media that she also filed a complaint to the 3rd Region Primary School Office of Ubon Ratchathani, but has received no response.
