Yingluck’s supporters fined for staring at prosecutors

The Supreme Court has fined two of Yingluck’s supporters 500 baht each for staring at public prosecutors during the trial on the rice pledging scheme corruption case.

On 19 January 2017, judges of the Supreme Court ruled to fine ML Mingmongkol Sonakul, a member of the aristocracy and film director and writer, and Tas Wanpharuehat 500 baht each.

The two were accused of intimidating public prosecutors and causing disorder at the courthouse on 7 October 2016. The pair had been attending the hearing on corruption charges against former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra related to her government’s rice pledging scheme.

The public prosecutors filed a case against the two, saying that both attempted to intimidate them by staring during a break in the trial.
