A criminal court has issued an arrest warrant for an anti-corruption activist who posted the results of a political survey on Facebook.

On 12 March 2017, Veera Somkwamkid, Secretary-General of the People’s Anti-Corruption Network, posted on his Facebook account that the Criminal Court on Ratchadapisek Road in Bangkok has approved an arrest warrant for him.

The warrant was issued on 9 March 2017 after a request from the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD).

The TCSD accused Somkid of violating the 2007 Computer Crime Act for posting a survey result which concludes that most people do not have confidence in the military government or Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, the junta leader and Prime Minister.

The authorities reasoned that Somkid spread false information which caused public damage.

Somkid responded by posting that he will report to the TCSD on 15 March.

“Which soldier forced a police investigator to request the arrest warrant in a rush citing national security?” Veera wrote on his Facebook account.
