Suspect of hospital bombing placed in military detention

Security forces have detained a 51-year-old woman in a military camp for interrogation over alleged involvement in the recent bombing of an army-run hospital.

The woman was arrested from her home in Bangkok in the evening of 27 May 2017, before being transferred to the 11th Military Circle. The authorities wished to interrogate her specifically over three letters that were sent to various medical organisations warning of the bombing of Phramongkutklao Hospital.

The woman denied any involvement in the letters, and also rejected connections to the other two bombings that took place over the past two months in front of the old Government Lottery Office and National Theatre.

The hospital blast went off in the late morning of 22 May. It remains unconfirmed whether the timing was intended to protest the third anniversary of the junta’s coup.
