<p>A Thai court’s award of damages for the fatal torture of a Muslim detainee highlights the government’s failure to prosecute soldiers who commit grave abuses in&nbsp;<a href="http://hrw.pr-optout.com/Tracking.aspx?Data=HHL%3d8%2c90A1-%3eLCE593719%26SDG%3c90%3a.&amp;RE=MC&amp;RI=4432086&amp;Preview=False&amp;DistributionActionID=84163&amp;Action=Follow+Link">Thailand</a>’s troubled deep south border provinces, Human Rights Watch said today. The case is a critical test of Prime Minister Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha’s vow to bring justice to Thailand’s restive southern border provinces.</p>

<p>Muslim people in Thailand have condemned the Thai junta government for deporting Uighur refugees to China, pointing out that it is a violation of international law.</p> <p>On Friday, 10 July 2015, a group of Muslim people in Thailand issued a statement condemning the Thai junta’s forced deportation of Uighurs, a Turkic Muslim minority from western China, back to their supposed country of origin.</p> <p>The statement was signed by Zakariya Amataya, a well-known Muslim poet in Thailand and Ekkarin Tuansiri, a political science lecturer at Prince of Songkhla University.</p>

<p>Thai junta ignored the UN inquiry into the torture allegations of Kritsuda Khunasen, a red-shirt political activist who was detained incommunicado for more than 20 days in June 2014. &nbsp;</p>

The two organizations made the call on the 11th anniversary of Somchai Neelapaijit’s disappearance.</p>

<p>On 7 September, the Pattani Provincial Court rejected an appeal by Rohima Huseng, who alleged that security officers in Pattani tortured her brother, Hasan Huseng, during interrogation at a detention centre in a military camp in southern Pattani Province.</p>
